Colorless, Transparent Liquid with ester aroma. The relative density is 1.069, boiling point is 90°C, solidification point is 4°C, flash point 19°C (closed cup). Soluble in water slightly, dissolve in alcohol, ether, ketone, ester and most organic solvents.


Dimethyl carbonate has multiple chemical properties,can be used for carbonylation, methylation, methoxyl and carbonyl methylation reactions in organic synthesis. All of these are due to its molecular structure characteristics. In particular, DMC is non-toxic and can substitute for phosgene (containing solid phosgene C3Cl6O3), methyl chloroformate, dimethyl sulfate and other highly toxic raw materials,used as a methylating agent or carbonylation agent, to improve the operation safety and reduce environmental pollution. Not only that, DMC can replace freon, three trichloroethane, trichloroethylene, benzene and xylene, used as paint solvents and cleaning solvents.

It is to be observed that, DMC content accounted for 53.33% of 2.93 times MTBE containing oxygen. The octane number (R+M) of /2=105, so it can be used as a fuel additive,can increase the octane number and oxygen content, then improve the antiknock. DMC has good conductivity, can be used for uranium ion solvent. In addition, DMC can also be used as additive of cleaning agent, surface active agent and softening agent. Additionally, as a perfect medium of lithium cell in battery industry.
